Where oh Where has Manda been?

I’m alive!

I won’t apologize again for going MIA. Life is crazy. Its summer and I am fully enjoying it. I’m super busy at work since I’m doing the same amount of work (if not more) in fewer hours so I don’t have time to blog. I’m having a hard time keeping up with your blogs too!

First things first…

JUNE RECAP

  • Total miles: 59
  • Pace: 10:02

Since the last time I blogged I started MARATHON TRAINING. Ahhhhhhhh! I will admit I was freaked out when I saw it all laid out. Am I really going to run 26.2 miles? After hours of research I decided to go with the FIRST training plan. I currently run 3-4 times a week and I don’t want to run more then that (otherwise I will burn out). The FIRST plan has you running 3x a week. The first workout is a speed workout. The second is tempo and then a long run. The pace guidelines are a bit aggressive but I guess that makes up for only running 3 times a week. So far so good. I think I am going to start blogging about each long run. I’ll be entering new distances soon and I’m skurred.

Week 1 – called for 8 miles @ 11:15 pace.

I ended up running 10 miles @ 10:37!

I met up with some running friends and they took me on a 10 mile loop and the first 5 miles were UP, up and up! We pretty much ran up a mountain. I was cursing them out cause as you know Manda avoids hills. Best part was that on the other side it was ALL down hill and I took full advantage as you can see from my splits.

1-11:22         6-10:30

2-11:37        7-10:11

3-11:28        8- 10:18

4-10:57        9-9:15

5-10:53        10-9:40

Total time: 1:46

Week 2 – called for 9 miles @ 11:15 pace.

I ran 9 difficult miles @ 11:13.

I normally do my long runs on Saturday but I had WW training so I had to run yesterday. Something about running on Sunday that totally threw me off my game. I was feeling out of it from the beginning. I decided to run out 4.5 miles and turn around. The route wasn’t flat b/c I am starting to embrace the hills. It wasn’t hot (71 degrees) but the humidity was killer. At the 3 mile mark I decided to start a run/walk (5:1). I normally hate doing a run/walk but it felt right yesterday. I was more then happy to see that my average pace was right on target with what my training plan called for despite the walking. I forgot to write down my splits but they were all in the 11ish range.

My last post I mentioned that I got hired for WW. Right now I am in training to be a receptionist. In a few months I will into becoming a leader. I have too much going on right now and I want to be the best leader I can be. I truly enjoy working for WW and I’ve met some awesome people!

How is everyone enjoying their summer?

Who else is running the Marine Corps Marathon on 10/31/10?

  1. I am excited for your running a marathon. I decided to start training for my 3rd 5K. I want to compare my time last year with my first 5K. I am also hoping to start training for a 10K. I hope I can do it. I have you as inspiration. Continued success on your training runs.

  2. Summer's going great here in SoCal. I was enthralled with the World Cup and it sorta ruined my training schedule but I'm all set for the San Francisco Marathon in a couple of weeks.

It's awesome that you're training for a marathon! Exciting!!

I'm not going to be running the Marine Corps Marathon, though. On Halloween, I'll be a week away from my second half-marathon in a four week span.
