This past Saturday I ran the Valley Cats 5K (local minor league baseball team). It was a typical warm & muggy June morning. The race course changed from last year but I knew that there would be a decent amount of hills. I didn't have a time goal in mind but I wanted to push myself and leave it all on the course.
The first half mile was all uphill. Normally I am conservative on hills but not on Saturday. I pounded up that hill as quickly as I could. I was so happy when I made it to the top!
The second mile is always the hardest for me. I go out too fast and then I start to worry that I won’t be able to keep the pace. I tried to push the negative thoughts out of my head and focused on keeping my pace below 9:30. Around 2.75 miles there was a short hill and I knew on the other side it would be all down hill. I started to walk and then I heard; ‘AMANDA!!’. I looked to my left and I saw a running/NoBo buddy. I said to her ‘you caught me walking’ and she said ‘well you better get running sister! ‘And I was off again – the 3 second walk break rejuvenated me!
The same hill we ran up we got to run down! I made sure to take full advantage of the half mile downhill. I pushed myself hard. The race ends with you running around the bases at the Valley Cat stadium. I saw the clock hit 28:00 and I stepped on the gas!! I wanted to finish under 29 minutes so badly.
- Mile 3 – 8:42
- Mile .13 – 7:44
- Time: 28:23
5K PR!!!
My dear friend snapped this amazing picture of me crossing the finish line and I cannot help but smile every time I look at it! I am clearly out of breath but still giving the thumbs up :)
Last year I finished this race in 33:44
Congratulations Amanda!! The race sounds like it went well and way to go on the PR!!
ReplyDeleteWAY TO GO AMANDA! Woot - that is an amazing time - way to sprint it out at the end.
ReplyDeleteMaybe when I get down to goal I'll like running again - I am a bit jiggly! :D
You were amazing - wish I could have stayed with you!
ReplyDeletecongrats
ReplyDeleteCongrats on the PR!!!
ReplyDeletecongrats!
ReplyDeleteNice job!
ReplyDeleteMy family and I saw a Vcats game last summer in the "joe." Good job in the race but did you slide into home after you were done?
ReplyDeleteYea!! Congrats on the PR! You totally destroyed last year's time. 5 minutes in a 5K is a HUGE amount of time to shave off. Nice job!
ReplyDeleteAwesome, awesome job!! Congrats on the PR, Amanda!
ReplyDeleteHi there! I'm Heather and I blog over at thenheathersaid.com
ReplyDeleteI've been searching your page for an email address, but I can't seem to find one! ( if you want to email me, you can at thenheathersaid at gmail.com )
I know it's short notice, and but on July 17th (a week from today) a few of the local bloggers I've recently found online and myself are going to be participating in the Schenectady/Greater Glenville YMCA 5K run/walk. It's in Scotia, and starts at Freedom Park.
We are thinking of doing a sort of potluck brunch/lunch after the 5K as well - (I live less than two blocks from the park, so if anything needs to be kept cool we can store it at my apartment) - either outside at the park or if the weather is gross, we can have the meet up at my apartment.
We would love to have you join us - even if not for the run/walk, for the brunch. I know it's incredibly short notice, but we hope you'll be interested in meeting up with other local bloggers, if not this time than another future meet up down the road.
Let me know if you'd be interested!
xo
