Trying To Get My Act Together

Ever since reaching goal, making lifetime, the big makeover and work drama blogging has been pushed to the side. I feel like I have nothing to talk about and the things I do want to talk about are so damn depressing and negative. I’ve been trying to put a positive spin on my job situation but really – there is no way to positively lose a significant amount of money.

I am still running and its probably the saving grace in my life right now. I am continually making poor choices in the food department. Over the last 2 years of my weight loss journey I made a lot of changes. I honestly thought that I no longer ‘ate my emotions’. I’ve learned that old habits are harder to break then I thought. I am reaching for ‘comfort food’ but I KNOW these foods wont make my situation any better. In reality gaining weight will only make things worse.  I am getting back on my ‘A’ game and making better choices.

I start marathon training on 6/28! I think I am going to use Hal Higdon’s 18 week Novice 2 Training plan. Has anyone used this plan? Thoughts? Any suggestions on what I can do for cross training?  Keep in mind I am cancelling my gym membership. PS – I am SCARED.

This coming Sunday is the 5K for the No Boundaries program I have mentored at. I am so excited and proud of all the participants. For 10 weeks they have gone from doubting their ability to believers. I am going to pace one of my mentees – she wants to finish in 36 minutes without walking and I know she can!

I am going to try to post more frequently. Once marathon training starts I will have lots to say, cry, bitch & moan about.

Last but not least; some good news. As of June 14th I am an employee of Weight Watchers!

  1. Hey Amanda,

Glad to see that you're back! I found your blog on the WW message boards. You have motivated me so much with your success in running.

I haven't been able to run lately because I broke the big toe on my right foot, so I'm glad that I can live vicariously through you and your running adventures. So keep posting!

  3. Whoa!!!!! Congrats on being a WW employee!! Are you a leader? What's the job?

In regards to Hal Higdon - We've been doing the 30 wk novice regimen and it seems to be working like a charm! I haven't yet reached the cross training stuff, so let me know the suggestions you receive!

Keep your head up pretty lady!

  4. So, what ya doing for WW? Will that help with the money from the other job?

I thought I was over emotional eating too....nope. I think the big difference is recognizing it, forgiving yourself, and making the different choice. I often wonder if I will ever lose the desire to emotional eat....maybe not, but I hope to be able to make the choice to not do it.

  5. I used the HH Novice 2 plan. I thought it was good, but it was hard for me to fit in the mid-week long runs. I had to fudge the schedule a little, but I liked it in general. But then I got hurt, sooooo...maybe I'm not the best person to ask.

Congrats on the WW job. That's awesome. Hope things start to turn around for you soon!

  7. I used Higdon's Novice 1 plan the first time I trained for a marathon. I didn't end up running it thanks to a bunch of knee pain but still. The higgy plan left me hurtin. I'm big enough to where my knees and ankles will kill me if I try to run 5 days a week, and so I got nothing but injuries from the HH plan.

I love and still use FIRST training plans. They take a more balanced approach by adding in cross training days and only running 3 days a week. love it!

  9. I'm using that exact plan right now for my fall marathon. Its what I used last year (uh, before my stress fracture), but my Running Partner found it worked well. She beat my beat marathon time on her very first marathon!

  10. I'm doing the Hal Higdon's 8 week 8K training program starting in a few weeks to prep for a 5 mile race in September!

The plan looks good. haha. I don't know much more about it than that.

  12. I climb stairs at a local ski hill jump, rollerblade, bike, swim, hike, golf (walking and dragging the bag), play tennis, and do spin classes for cross training. I don't have a gym membership- you can buy one class at a local gym for $8, so it's pretty reasonable if you only go once or twice a month.

  13. Congrats on the WW job and have a great time on Sunday. I'm sure it will be great.

When I ran the marathon I used a few different plans and adapted them into one that worked best for my running and life style. I think Higdon's was one of the plans. Do you have cable? THere are great exercise tv on demand shows that would be good cross training for you.

  16. Sending huge hugs your way - it just goes to show that losing weight doesn't solve everyones problems.

I work with someone who thinks "when she's at goal weight" her life will be perfect. There will still be daily challenges but you can do it!

I rent all my exercise DVD's from the library - I can keep them for 3 weeks - you might try that. Also, not sure what kind of cable you have, but I have exercise on demand, up to 50+ routines ranging from 10 minute abs, to 50 minute cardio workouts - that's free!

Let me know if you want me to sponsor a race for you - I'd love to! :D Just email me at bdl319@gmail.com and let me know!
