May RECAP
- Total Miles: 65
- Average Pace: 10:24
- Longest run: 14 (Ragnar Relay)
- Total for the year: 323
May was a great month. I had the time of my life running the Ragnar Relay! I experienced a once in a lifetime makeover thanks to all of you! After 2+ years I reached LIFETIME status with Weight Watchers.
Unfortunately, I was hit with a hard blow on Friday. My hours were cut at work. I have gone from a 40+ hour work week to 32 hours. Needless to say this is HUGE. Like most families across the country we live paycheck to paycheck. Losing a days pay is detrimental. I’m still in shock and not sure how we are going to get through this. I am trying to remain positive but I feel lost & hopeless.
I am an emotional eater. I have not made the best choices since finding out the bad news. I am trying to get myself back on track but it’s hard. The last thing I need is to gain weight.
Saturday I will probably be running my last 5k for awhile (unless I can get others to pay my registration fees lol). I am very sad that I have to cut out racing from my budget. Since I started racing in March 2009 I have done over 20 races. But there are things called priorities, like putting food on my table that outweigh my need for an adrenaline rush.
My apologies in advance for my lack of commenting and posting.
PS = I am starting Marathon training next month!

So sorry to hear your hours were cut! I can only imagine the strain that would cause! Could you pick a part time job?
ReplyDeleteSorry about your job and having to cut back on races. They are tax-deductible if the race fee goes to charity.
ReplyDeleteSo sorry about work. :( What do you do? Could you freelance or something?
ReplyDeleteCongrats on marathon training, though. How exciting!
Budget cuts suck! Sorry to hear you're going through this. A tight budget prevents me from entering many, many races. What keeps me going is that just running is pretty much free and I can continue to improve with really just that. The races will still be there in the future and when I get back to them I should be stronger and faster.
ReplyDeleteugh, sorry to hear about the work situation. But the marathon training is exciting! I'm in week 4 of training, fun stuff!
ReplyDeleteI've been struggling due to financial difficulties and other life things. I hope that you do a better job of handling it. I have not been good and basically took 2 months off. I hope you find your way!
ReplyDeleteMy husband was out of work for several months. It was very hard.
ReplyDeleteHugs Amanda. You'll persevere and make it through. I'm an emotional eater as well so I know what is going on in that arena. See you Sat.
ReplyDeleteAmanda, so sorry about the work situation. I am an emotional eater too, but I am MUCH better about it. I am excited that you are starting your marathon training. Keep up the wonderful positive attitude, you have come SO far!
ReplyDeleteThat stinks about the hours cut, Amanda :( You have a great support system here! Just post if you're feeling defeated and I'm sure you'll get some inspiring responses to keep you motivated!
ReplyDeleteCongrats on lifetime! Huge accomplishment!
sorry to hear the bad news. We've had things like that happen at our work. Hubby and I both lost 16 days each of work due to furloughs. The State is trying to save money. While we figure out how to pay the same bills with less money.
ReplyDeleteI would dare say, "why not put up a pay pal?" as was said in the movie, Julie & Julia. I am sure people would donate money for your races. Additionally, increasing your advertising on your blog to make more money. There is a market for fitness and running bloggers. You need to tap into that. It could be your side gig. Good luck.
Really sorry to hear about your work worries ... my husband was made redundant back in April so I know how you feel ... every little luxury has to be cut out. Hopefully it won't be for too long and things will pick up. Fingers crossed!
ReplyDeleteWow...that totally sucks...I hope for the best on for a speedy return to normalcy.
ReplyDeleteManda- sorry to hear about your job... You're absolutely right that it won't help to gain back any of what you've worked so hard to lose!! You've inspired me to keep going (on the WW boards) - keep your chin up, girl!!
ReplyDeleteSo sorry to hear about your job :(
