This past Saturday was the Freihofer’s Run for Women. I’ve been guest blogging for the site for a few months and my initial goal was to finish the race around 27 minutes. This was a hefty goal and I thought I was going to have time for speed training but that never happened.
Suzy was running the race too so we decided to run together. If you recall we ran most of the Winter Series together and she is a great running partner. She keeps me going when I want to stop and I love chatting with her. The race didn't start until 10am and it was so HUMID – yuck!
There are about 4000 women that run this race. The race starts by running up a hill. For us, we pretty much walked up the hill because there was no where to go. Yes, we could have weaved in and out of the crowd but we would have lost each other. The first mile was so congested – we could never get into a groove. We finished the first mile around 11:18 and decided our goal for the race was to run negative splits since we probably weren't going to PR.
- Mile 1 – 11:18
- Mile 2 – 9:52
- Mile 3 – 9:02
- .12 – 7:39
- Finish Time: 31:06
Certainly not my best time but considering my first mile was 11:18; I am pleased. FRW is not the best race for a PR (although I know plenty that did!!).
Felice’s running group ran this race. I am so impressed by Felice’s coaching skills. Most of these ladies never ran and when I met them on the first day they didn't think they could actually do it. On Saturday they all finished with AMAZING times and I was so happy to have been able to watch their transformation.

I LOVE the negative splits that we pulled off! Then again, when you walk the first 1/4 mile it's hard not to have them. You had a great race! Congrats on the time - all things considered. We'll have to get together for a run again soon.
ReplyDeleteGreat job. You will beat your personal record soon.
ReplyDeleteLove those negative splits. It was SO HUMID too! My lst mile was VERY slow too and then my 2nd was too fast so my 3rd mile was somewhere in between. Hope to run with you again soon. I signed up for the ValleyCats one.
ReplyDeletegreat job on the negative splits!
ReplyDeleteYay for negative splits! The FRW is a tough course with the hills and all the turns. I think you guys did great -- and you were such a great supporter of the group :-)
ReplyDeleteHoly cow on the negative splits!!!! You are amazingly supportive!
ReplyDeleteP.S. I just left you a little gift on my blog :)
