First things first…. I came in 3rd for my age group!
FEMALE AGE GROUP: 20 – 29
- Kerry Gebhardt 21 Delmar NY 28:08
- Laura Barlow 20 Latham NY 29:45
- Amanda Wright 29 troy NY 32:42
I feel as though the racing gods have been against me recently. First there was the half marathon in pouring rain. Next was the 5k in 80+ degrees. Yesterday was wind gusts up to 30mph. Oh well, at least I know I can handle anything.
I met up with Felice before the race and we did a half mile warm up. I don't normally run to warm up before a race but I think its a good idea. My legs didn't feel so stiff at the start. Afterwards we found Darlene and took a group picture.
My goal for this race was to beat my time from last year of 37:36. I wanted to try and keep up with Felice as long as I could but even 5 months pregnant she is REALLY FAST! As I was watching her run I noticed how effortless it looked. She did amazing – finished in 29:59!
I tried to keep an consistent pace. I was pushing hard. I allowed myself to slow down a little after 2.5 miles and then picked it back up.
- Mile 1 – 9:18
- Mile 2 – 9:36
- Mile 3 – 9:18
- Mile .5 – 9:04
- Total: 32:42 9:21 PACE!!
Here I am at the 3 mile mark. I was totally wishing the race was a 5k at this point.
Darlene also rocked the race! She shaved 5 minutes off of last years time too! The three of us chatted for awhile and enjoyed the post race refreshments. I rarely stick around for the awards and I am kicking myself that the one time I place and I didn't get my award.
The three of us post race. Cold & Windy. It was a great way to spend Mother’s Day morning and I look forward to it next year.

Great job! That would be something I would do - get an award and not stick around! Can you call up the race director and arrange to pick it up?
