- What’s worse then running in 10 degree weather with a windchill of –2?
- VOLUNTEERING at the water station in 10 degree weather with a windchill of –2!! :)
Seriously, I thought I was going to lose my fingers. I kept spilling the water and it was going through my gloves. I even had 2 hand warmers in my gloves and nothing worked.
In all honesty I had a lot of fun. The runners are awesome as usual. The options for today's race was 4 miles, 10 miles or 20 miles. Yes, there were plenty of people out there doing the 20 miler! After 2.5 hours I was finally told I could head indoors. All of these races couldn't happen without the volunteers. I am going to make it a point to volunteer more often. I had plans to run after volunteering but you know what?! It’s not going to happen. I have subjected myself to enough torture for one day.
I mentioned the other day that this was a cut back week so my long run was only supposed to do 4 miles. Well, there has been a change of plans which I will discuss later so I decided to run 6 miles. I did the run at the gym. The only way for me to get through a long run on the TM is to play with the speed. So I did 5 minutes at 5.1 and every minute after I alternated between 5.1, 5.5, 6.0 and 6.5. I did the last mile at 6.5 – 7.0!!!! I was rocking it. I finished 6.2 miles in 62:45 which is my fastest 10k!
Oh, I also received an award for participating/volunteering in the entire Winter Series (5 races). It’s a cute little pen holder that displays the time & temp. I love gifts!

Thanks for volunteering! I wanted to come out and say 'Hi' after my cool down, but I didn't want to go out in the wind again. I hope your fingers are nice and toasty now that you are inside again.
ReplyDeletebrrrrrrrrr! But good for you for volunteering!!
ReplyDeleteThank you for volunteering! I was only able to make the last of the winter series and it was a blast!
ReplyDeleteThank you!
I think it is great to give back to something that has given so much to yourself. I hope to follow your example once I'm ready to start doing organized events...(I can't seem to call them races...I guess I'm racing against myself, though.)
ReplyDeleteGreat speed on the TM! I hate that thing. I'll have to try alternating speed to see if I can stay motivated!
ReplyDeleteI was VERY grateful for the volunteers at my Saturday race. That is worse than running. We at least warmed up some. You are to be admired and thanked.
ReplyDeleteI think it was very very thoughtful of you to volunteer at the water station.
ReplyDeleteDon't we all love gifts! You surely deserve yours :)
That's so awesome that you volunteered. I think I will give it a try some time. :) Great job on your 10K time!
ReplyDeleteVolunteers are so important along the route, I find that they give me the push to keep going, the cheering, the water, the smiles, they are so important.
ReplyDeleteYou did a really good thing, congrats!
I felt bad for the volunteers at my race yesterday, but they had a lot of spirit!
ReplyDeleteWow, soooo cold! Kudos to you for volunteering and to all of the runners for running in the frozen tundra!
ReplyDeleteGREAT job on the 10K and good for you for volunteering! All of my race volunteering has been in decent weather -- you are hardcore :-)
ReplyDeleteAmanda holy moly! Thank you for commenting on my blog because Iclicked through to yours. CONGRATULATIONS on your workout but also on your long road to health! Look at you. You are beautiful.
