If you’ve never run a relay race I highly suggest it. I had such a great time!
Here we are in the beginning. This is before we went outside and realized how windy it really was!
Suzy had the first leg (9.2 miles) after we saw her off Felice and I went back inside.
We didn't know what to do with ourselves! It’s strange being at a race and having to wait a couple of hours before you run. Felice & I didn’t want to miss the switch so we ended up going outside way too early! Despite dealing with a stomach bug & the wind gusts up to 41mph Suzy did an awesome job on her leg! She finished in 1:37 and then it was Felice’s turn to run 5.7 miles.
Suzy & I retreated inside and before I knew it – it was my turn to run! Of course we went outside to early. I enjoyed cheering on the marathoners & other relay members. Felice totally rocked her leg and finished in 50:25!
Here I am waiting for Felice. It was cold & windy!
Finally it was my turn to run. I started off way too fast. I was hoping to catch up with some people (which never happened). I felt pretty good most of the race. The wind was insane and there were moments that I was questioning whether or not I was actually moving. There were a couple hills that wouldn't have been so bad if the wind wasn't so strong. My leg consisted of 2 loops. I was so happy to see Felice & Suzy cheering for me around mile 5.5! I was feeling run down at this point and the thought of having to do another loop was daunting. I quickly pushed the negative thoughts out of my head.
Before I knew it I was a little over 7miles. I started to think of my run as only 4 more miles, 3 more miles etc… Thinking about the run in smaller increments really helps get me through. Mile 9 was really tough. I stopped to tie my jacket around my waist. I stopped for Gatorade and I stopped to stretch out my severely cramping calves. With 2 miles left I gave it my all. I went a little crazy and I was yelling at the wind. “Is this all you got wind?!” “Bring it on!” I was joking around with the volunteers and truly enjoying myself.
Finally the finish line was in sight! My teammates were there to cheer me on and I booked it to the finish! Our team ran 26.2 miles in 4:22:59!
All smiles even after running the most brutal 11 miles ever!
- Mile 1- 9:48
- Mile 2 – 9:51
- Mile 3 – 10:03
- Mile 4 – 10:03
- Mile 5 – 10:31

- Mile 7 – 10:12
- Mile 8 – 10:06
- Mile 9 – 10:47

- Mile 11 - 10:32

I am so proud of my team. We all performed so well! We already have plans to get together when it’s warmer out. I feel so prepared and ready for the Disney Princess Half Marathon!
I want to thank Suzy & Felice for a memorable race! Are we on for next year?! :)
Only sour note of the day:
Someone backed into my car in the parking lot. Thankfully he left his phone number. It’s not the biggest deal in the world and I was on such a runner’s high, I didnt really care!

Nice race report! I red Felices earlier. Looks like you guys had a lot of fun! :)
