I am not a Yankee fan. In fact, I really dislike them. I bleed blue & orange (Mets for all you non baseball fans). In NYC the rivalry is between Yankee & Met fans. Most Yankee fans are very mean to Met fans so therefore I have always had a chip on my shoulder. With that being said, I am from NEW YAWK and I am glad they won the World Series. It was a good series and reminded me why I love baseball. Alas, sports are like politics and probably shouldn't be brought up unless you are looking for an argument. I have respect for all teams!
Onto more pressing matters – my physical therapy appointment! It went well I think. I’ve never been to PT so I did not know what to expect. We got to know each other. The PT poked around and concluded that I have very tight hamstring, IT Band and “butt muscles” (I thought a tight butt was a good thing?!). She put a warm blanket on my right side and I fell asleep to loosen me up before we began stretching. We did a couple of different stretches and holy shit did I feel it. I never realized how inflexible I am!
Overall, the appt went well. I was told not to run but that I can continue with the elliptical & arc trainer as long as I don't have pain. I have 2 appointments for next week – after that I can only do 1 appt. I am hoping I wont need as many appts but only time will tell.
Here is a scan of the stretches I should be doing 3x a day.

Good to hear PT went well. Every PT I've been to is really nice and has your best interests in mind. The stretches look good...I do the piriformis and hamstring stretch almost everytime I run because of tight hamstrings (IMO). I hope this makes all the difference and you are back running soon.
Amanda,
Sounds like PT will be good... yay! Thanks for sharing the specific exercises. I need to stretch more - I'm very bad about that! My massage therapist said, "Tight hams/butt" this week, too. I'm w/ you: thought a tight butt was good! Oh well...
Glad to hear you're listening to your body.. :-)

When I was going to PT for tendinitis in my ankle my therapist told me that I had tight muscles from my hips to my calves. You definitely need to stretch them, even when you aren't running. I learned that tight muscles alter your running gait and therefore can cause injury, ahem. I never realized how important flexibility was until then. Take care!
Yeah, I'm not a Yankee fan either and I actually didn't watch the World Series this year. Being a West Coaster, I guess I just didn't have enough interest in the teams. I'm sure that's how it is for East Coasters when it's like the Mariners vs. the Giants. Oh, wait. The Mariners have never gone to a World Series.
Okay, enough baseball. Glad you are going to PT and that you can continue to do your cross-training. Keep it up!
Thank you for sharing the stretching diagram. I am a new 5k walker, starting weight 282, current weight 270. I have been on WW since mid summer and walking a little over 3 weeks. I completed my 4th 5k yesterday.
I want to thank you for the great job you do on your blog. I began following a couple of weeks ago and find your story encouraging and inspiring. You have done a fantastic job on your journey! Your blog is honest and real. Thank you! I am blogging about my journey too at fatchickruns.com.
Thanks again!
Glad it went well!
I would highly recommend getting The Stick to help warm up those muscles before runs (after your done w/PT).
I'm a huge Yankees fan and I've never been mean to Mets fans, I promise!!!
