First let me start by saying that the weather is GORGEOUS in NY right now. It's sunny and 85 degrees. We needed this after the crappy winter we had this year.
The race started at 8:30 so it was around 60 degrees at start (I am guessing). Just before the race started I look to my left and I see a lovely woman standing there and I say to myself - 'I think that's Marcy!!!'. AND IT WAS!!! YAY!!!! I met a fabulously inspiring blogger today. She was AWESOME! She actually ran the first mile of the race with me! I got to see the awesome Garmin in action (and I totally want one even more!). Thanks for taking the time to run with me and wait for me to finish - it meant a lot!!! :)
Back to the race - it was hot. I was definitely running faster then I usually do. I was running the race with a co-worker. We get to the turn around point and all I can think is that we still have another 3 miles to go!!! I didnt know if I was going to make it. My stomach hurt and I really wanted to stop. But I didnt! My co-worker took off at about the 5.5 mile mark and I was left to run by myself. I finished hard! And with a smile bc Marcy & my co-worker were there cheering me on!!!!
My official time:
Amanda W. 28 F Troy 1:10:22 11:20
Do you see that pace??!!! 11:20. That is AMAZING for me. I've been averaging anywhere from 12:15-12:30 min/miles on any run over 5 miles. I was estatic to see my time. Funny thing is that I KNOW there were at least 5 people behind me but I am showing up as the last person on the results. Oh well - like I said I dont care about being last - just confused as to what happened to the other 5 people?
Onto a sour note - my flipping Nike + thing wouldnt work today!!!!! I get it all started and it says walk around to activate your sensor and it wouldnt activate! Does that mean I need a new sensor? I know the sensors don't last forever but i've only had it for about 4 months! Reason # 3565656 to get a garmin...
I will leave you with this funny picture of me acting a fool with a bronze doggy in downtown Albany...

I'm so glad that we got to meet! You did a fantastic job ;D Definitely an awesome race for you! I can't wait to see you at Freihofer's! That one is always fun.
ReplyDeleteYou know, when I looked at the results I thought the same thing. I saw an old guy finishing up when I was leaving to go back to my car. What the heck was that about did they all not have chips or something?!?
Good work on your race!!! I just happened across your site. I have a Nike+ too and sometimes it just won't catch to work. Try resetting your iPod (hold down the circle and the top {menu?}of the click wheel at the same time for 7 seconds). If it still doesn't catch, it's probably time for a new sensor. Mine gives me warning though. When I go to Nike+ it will say "sensor is low."
ReplyDeleteThat said, in Canada it took awhile for my sensor to come so you might want to order one now to have it ready! I think they say that they work for about 300km but will die out longer if you have the sensor on your shoe and using your iPod sans Nike+ (sensor still tries to connect to receiver).
Good luck!
